Web 1.0

Monday, May 29, 2006 12:03:11 PM

This has to be one of the funniest things I've read in ages: http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2006/05/controversy_about_our_web_20_s.html. Basically, O'Reilly (the publisher) is suing a company for using the term Web 2.0 to promote a conference. The lawsuit itself is funny enough, but the amount of seriousness in some of the comments is hysterical:

"Trying to service mark "Web 2.0" for conference use isn't really in the spirit of Web 2.0 at all."

"It doesn't make a lot of horse-sense to define Web 2.0 in terms of shared resources, open-source and collective development, yet take the same term and monopolize the usage. "

"I have twelve O'Reilly books. I'm not buying any more. This is f****** b***s***.

Who gives a s*** if you were there first? You're still a**h**** who are enforcing a pending servicemark on THE NAME OF AN INDUSTRY."

As if there really exists a Web 1.0 or Web 2.0. Personally, I'm using Internet 3.1 and feel no urge to upgrade to Web 1.0 or Web 2.0. ;-)

Web developers are too serious.

Bill O'Reilly call your office: someone else has come up with the most ridiculous item of the day. . .and they are using your name too. ;-)
