Dreamweaver 8 Updater
Monday, January 16, 2006 6:53:14 PM
Adobe/Macromedia released an updater for Dreamweaver 8 today. I had not heard about it and don't know how good it is, but in general these Dreamweaver updaters are essential. DW MX and DW MX 2004 were both almost unusable without the updaters -- especially if you did much with extensions or find/replace. DW 8 seems better, but it does suffer from random problems. The updater can be found at http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html.
One thing I always like to do after running these updaters is to compare all the files changed in a file comparison program, as any changed file in the Configuration folder can impact extensions. This time, it looks like only minor changes in the Configuration folder -- mysql.php file in the _mmDBScripts folder, a new command called Display External Files, and a few cosmetic changes. Other than that, it looks like the main Dreamweaver.exe file had some changes done to it, but on the whole I'd say this must have been a stop-gap bug fix. Usually Macromedia puts a little more effort into a full-blown updater. The Mac updater may have more fixes in it, as the file size is about 3 times bigger.
